An honest, emotional, positive reaction from Harry? Not a wild rant that shocks everybody into terrorized frenzy? No magical outburst flattening whole rooms? No bitter feelings that poison the way he deals with closest friends for weeks on end?

As for Croaker... he's a stubborn, shortsighted hypocrite of an arrogant, selfenamored coward. How can you in the same discussion first defend a position that muggleborn blood is needed to keep the wizarding society healthy and working and then turn around and oppose the same reasoning for muggleborn thoughts and ideas?

That's exactly the mindset (nothing will ever be allowed to change as it is the godgiven rule of things) that condemned India, imperial China and Japan to a painful and dishonorable death under the greedy paws of the western powers. Stagnation, even if you call it tradition or the proper order of things, always leads to death of civilization as they will be overthrown by more open concepts. Adaption keeps alive.

And even if it did not doom the wizarding world to some great glorified last stand some time relatively soon in the future where it either will be broken down and changed by force or will be annihilated and extinct by the muggles, his stance - as Harry has already said - is the fig leaf behind which Death Eaters and similar psychopaths willingly can hide and commit their atrocities in the name of "the status quo", "the right order of things" and "traditions". They can't even admit that there are bad muggleborns and good muggleborns, powerful ones and weak ones, just as the same four characteristics are valid for purebloods and halfbloods alike. How can they ever hope to get rid of the Dark Lord problems if whenever another DL has been vanquished they take their old prejudices up from amongst the corpses and ruins, polish them some up until they shine and sparkle again and put them back up on the altar of unconditional adulation?

Croaker might truly not see himself as an intolerant racist, but his kind of mindset is exactly what makes the Death Eaters and their slightly more moderate audience possible and causes the murderous conflicts time and again. And thus it has to go. Either by intelligent discussion and consent or if that is no longer possible by kicking those morons to the moon and back until it got hammered into their wooden, stubborn, thickskulled brains.

I'm sorry that your illness has returned. The true sorrow, however, lies in the loss of one of the few remaining literary artists in this fandom. Although JKR royally screwed up with the last few books, the world she created has been one of the most intriguing worlds of fiction, and it has had the most room for expansion, creativity, and, in some cases, artistry. At one point, it was easy to find stories written by exceptional authors with exceptional plots. But those stories have been completed, and their authors have moved on into life, leaving their talents and their masterpieces behind. It is a real pity to see another go... but such is the way of things, i suppose. There are very few crafts left in the world where the craftsman pours his very being into his work, and creates a product that means something. Writing... writing is one of the last, and the HP universe has inspired more craftsmen to take up their tools than other work to date... and that is coming to a close. There are maybe ten authors worth a damn who still write with everything they have. I understand your reasons for leaving, but to see another of those go... Enough rambling. Ill be amazed if you even read this entire thing. One last thing: why is it that the greats of fanfiction don't become published authors? Many of them... they could take their fictions, change a few names, remove some things from the first chapters, and it would be completely unrecognizable as having anything to do with Rowling's universe. Jbern has become published, I know, and I'm glad to see that someone recognizes that their talents can be used for more than fanfiction. still...even writing in general has begun to die. If you read some of the 'best sellers' out there, and compare them to some of the fanfictions i've read... the fanfictions blow them out of the water. Very few take pride in their work anymore, you know? Work has become a means to an end, and not an end unto itself. There are no longer Masters of a craft, there are only practitioners who plod along, becoming more uselessly efficient at the same routines for years. Dammit, i'm getting all philosophical on you. Time to stop before I end up writing a book. Goodbye...

You have a wonderful grasp of drama. Harry seems to have pulled away from his circle of school friends, so I'm guessing many of the spots will be taken by his teachers or order members, excepting his close circle (which has taken a back seat this year due to events posted). Thanks for being Snape back into existence--so we know what happened to him. So Hermoine is to be his adviser/support/researcher? This universe you've created is fascinating.

Well, I'm not sure how to start off a review of such a work as this. I suppose I should say right off that I picked this story up on Portkey in 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I lost track of it after a few years (especially after the HBP and DH debacles), but decided to search for 'that fic where Harry had a motorcycle' a few days ago so I could reread. I found it, and though it isn't finished, what you've done is WONDERFUL. It's definitely one of my favorite fanfictions ever, right up there with Cassie's Draco Trilogy and Lori's Paradigm of Uncertainty Series. Your plots and subplots are intriguing and impeccably woven together, and the characterizations of known characters are spot on and their growth and maturity in your fic is GREAT. Your own characters are at once interesting, funny and brilliantly crafted, the Marquis especially.
I'm sorry to hear about your illness, and I wish you and your family well. I can only hope you return to fanfiction at some point, it would be a great loss. If indeed this is probably the last chapter, I hope your nephew posts your work in progress and hopefully a summary of what would have happened is included (like Lori's ended, sadly). I'm rather interested in what Hermione has discovered, more about Harry's new group, Dumbledore's explanation on his latest manipulation, the rest of the story on Croaker, and of course how Harry fares against Voldemort.
Lastly, as a supporter of H/Hr I'm thrilled with the ending of this chapter and the way you've made them grow and work together. I would've continued the story no matter what ship you went with because the writing is that good, but you've made me quite happy with your choice, LOVE IT. If this was the real 6th book in HP it would've complied with everything said, including the prophecy, the power he knows not, and the potential of a H/Hr ship in SS through OotP- unlike HBP and DH did, the prophecy and the whole power he knows not/love concept seemed to be pushed aside for dumb luck. So kudos on all of that, I'll definitely want to see more of this but if not, what a great note to end on. =D

I adored the entire scene that comprised the day of December 20, from the word "Come" and until the word "back". It was wonderful and I had a smile on my face the entire time.
Also, it was interesting to hear the wizards version of science. Most authors don't go into that, but I always like to see how wizards discover new things.

Great story. I'm sorry you won't be able to finish it as you may have wished. I can only hope the materials yet to be published includes an outline of how you intended the story to go and how its many threads would tie together.

I'm quite interested to learn the theory of magic Hermione has developed and whether it is correct or useful.

Thank you for your excellent story. It has a depth that is seldom found. It drew me in and kept me hooked right through the last chapter. I particularly complement the richly explored idea that there was bigger problems that Voldemort. In a way Voldemort was only a symptom of the problems. The society in the story itself provided the fertile soil for his ambitions to take shape.

Again I'm reminded why I love this story. You bring so much to these characters than I would hope for.

I was apprehensive of Hermione’s state of mind once again. Not until Harry had his conversation with Croaker that Hermione’s indignation was justified. The man truly is a bigot. Only someone with Ogden’s inclination to see the good in people, Dumbledore’s manipulative nature, and someone with the same prejudices can tolerate him. I would like to find out what they have planned for Hermione and how her recent discovery on magic will affect the wizarding world.

The meeting with the Marquis and the conversation about the oats had me in stitches. And I can’t wait till the Knights of Saint Peter have all been chosen and have their first meeting. I can just see Ron all tall proud with his title.

Once again, another proof of Dumbledore’s manipulative ways have been uncovered. I can’t figure out if he’s a good man with good intentions but made a lot of bad choices or someone who’s determined to defeat Voldemort no matter the consequences. How will Harry confront him this time?

I thought Hermione has gone off the deep end with the research books they have uncovered. The conversation she had with Harry about this showed how much they have grown as individuals. I love how their relationship has slowly progressed and has reached that level of trust both emotionally and physically. To think there was a time Hermione had difficulty being around Harry after the Voldemort attack.

I’m sorry to hear that your illness has returned Mike. I’m very thankful that you chose to share your writings even if they are still WIPs. The waiting, even if it took years, for updates were always worth it because you more than delivered with each chapter. I’ll be looking forward to the rest of the chapters.
