Detheridge’s approach to Harry is a welcome change compared to Dumbledore, who coddles him and gives him the runaround then lies with little or no reservations. And what’s up with him zoning out every once in a while?
So, Detheridge has given Hermione an ultimatum. I wonder how she’s going to deal with that. I couldn’t imagine it would be easy for her. And I also hope we find out the significance of Hermione being called Saattaja by the goblins.
I wasn’t expecting Harry to ask Covelli. That was a good move by Harry and shows that he is stepping up to his role and showing signs of maturity.
The introduction of Macleish and his agenda was not how I imagined it would be. He could be a worthwhile ally but the addition of Nicola becomes problematic . She’s a wild card that could either help or hinder Harry’s cause if he accepts Macleish’s support. Still, there are too many layers for it to be that clear cut.
Why did Nicola ended up staying with Macleish rather than Covelli, given that Covelli is a psychiatrist and can better look after her mental well being. But, Macleish seems more capable of protecting her more from the wizarding world’s prejudices. Was it a mutual agreement?
A very loaded chapter. It answers a lot of questions and still poses more. This is getting better, if that’s even possible. ;)

The extent of the damage Voldemort has done to Hermione became clear in these chapters. It was sad to see the brilliant Hermione broken.
I love the different types of conversations she had with Dumbledore, with her Mum, Luna, and Harry. Each a step to recovery. The oath that Dumbledore took, what will that lead to? She was at odds with her mother before this but it’s clear her mother was trying to understand all that’s happening. It’s one of the most real and touching conversation I’ve read. Another good thing that came out of this ordeal is her friendship with Luna. Love that journal banter. Even in her dreams Harry saves her. I surely hope that was a shared dream.
No matter how many times I’ve read intermezzo, it never ceases to leave me in awe. So beautifully written.

I never read the earlier version of YoR so I don't know how the Redux compares to the original, but this is an amazingly well written story. Your characters have a very "real" feel to them. No one is too perfect and no one is evil personified--except maybe Voldemort and that's as it should be. I always hate waiting for the next chapter when I'm reading a work in progress, but I can use the time to think through this one. I never saw it coming but Nicola explains a lot about her father. Thanks for a great fic. In the words of Oliver Twist, "Please,sir, I want some more."

Wow. You just find those tough issues and dive right in, don't you Mike? Nicely done. You introduced the idea of a mentally challenged witch, all of the complications, and many of the ramifications, and then leave it open-ended, for the reader to digest. I honest don't think I've seen a better, more professionally written, more powerful ending to a chapter in any fiction I've read in several years.

Would Covelli not only do it again, but do it now?
Somehow I had gotten the idea that Nicola and Heather were friends and Nicola had gotten an initial message to Harry after the "forced" separation. But that doesn't seem plausible now. I'll have to go back and see where I messed up.

Excellent chapter. It really made my weekend when I saw you'd updated. I'm glad Harry's letting go of Heather, but I'd love to read more Harry and Hermione interaction.

Lovely, layered and nuanced.
The notion of Nicola being a key motivation for MacLeish - amazing, and very humanizing. Nicola being the rock upon which Covelli and MacLeish's marriage foundered, very deep.
When we had the episode with Nicola, I was remembering another fan-fic in which Gred and Forge had enchanted teddy-bears, including a Beary Potter, who was saying thinks like "Only I can kill Voldemort" and "Everything's my fault, I'm sorry." I'm fairly certain you never read that story, but that's what I was thinking of.

Really good part here, and loved the way things went with this young lady, as well as the art of the battle with "Harry" and the dragon, and I look forward to what this will mean for Harry and his friends in the future.

Love the story and sorry to say that I haven't left a review before now, but there is one thing that I have to say....
you are a dog!!..lol I was going to use renderings in my story, and you beat me to it...dang it!!

Actually, I started using renderings for the original Years of Rebellion in 2003, in the Poser 5 days. I use Poser 7 now, and Corel Photo-Paint 12 for postwork when I'm being a little more serious about it. I use Cararra 5 for landscape backgrounds but have never been a really committed user. Until recently I had a number of renders posted at the FFA Forum but ran low on open file space. I'll probably add back some of them over time, for both YoR and Last Horcrux.

So happy to see a new chapter on this, and one that fills in so much backstory!
VERY interesting plotline with Nicola; one can see the rational side of Lucia that makes her a goo phsycologist warring with her emotional side. At the same time the layered motivations of MacLeish's push for integration are finally revealed, as well as the current tragedy that is Nicola, as well as the potential threat she represents. And for the first time Harry has met someone as manipulative as Dumbledore, whose ultimate goals oppose both the headmaster and Voldemort.
I would have liked to hear more about why Covelli was so opposed to the idea of Hermione attending the Hunt; is it just because of her still fragile nature, or is there more involved? Hopefully that will be revealed in more detail in the future.
Whatever else might be said, YoR is never boring! (Wonder what MacLeish's reaction will be to an angry werewolf as Heather's father?)

What an interesting development, I've suspected for a while that Keith MacLeish would be more like able than indicated, but I never expected this. I certainly see his side of things, but I can see Lucia's side as well. Honestly, I'm not certain she's wrong, but I'm fairly certain I couldn't bring my self to do in Nicola unless she was in the act of hurting someone. I certainly understand MacLeish's over all motives, and suspect that Harry might ally with him in general. I could see some problems coming from visiting Nicola if she decides that she'd rather Harry stay for a while. Brilliant chapter, thank you.

You know,I've been on the border over this MacLeish character,wether or not he is good or evil...as of now, I'm liking him. He's willing to do whatever it takes to usher in a brave new world,by any mean necesary. Kind of like Magneto.

what a way to present the real moral dilemma - is it allowable to kill someone because of what they MIGHT do??? The concept of prior restrain caused a heated discussion with one of my ecclesiatical (spelling?) leaders just this morning.
thanks for your excellent story - I will be thinking long and hard about this chapter and borrowing your example as an illustration for many conversations.

Of course there's the added wrinkle of a secret society and its self-protection. That part in particular fascinates me. To what lengths would the Secrecy Statute require a society to go? Anyone who went around displaying magic willy-nilly would be jailed for certain; what do you do with someone who can't help it?

Niiiiiiiice. You've managed to reference the Nazi "silent holocaust" of disabled and infirm children and brought up the benefits of euthanasia. My head hurts. I remember hearing a story on NPR months ago about parents having their disabled children medically stunted at a permanently prepubescent state in order to more easily care for them throughout their lives, and all I could think of was the actress who played Moaning Myrtle - I think shes in her late 30's.
As far as where you're going with this, all I have to say is "Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis?"
