I think Orson Scott Card wrote another series call Tales of the Alvin Maker. try that out.

BIG chapter, B I G Chapter, by the time i was at the end i forgot how it began, this, aside from the recap I had to do of what happened previously.

Excellent reading, good history lesson, but too much dialogues and no action make this a dull chapter.Regardless of all that ... keep up the good work

hmm, footnote 3...you stated that Uberwald isn't a wizard or dark (as far as you know), but you didn't deny icompetent...just a thought...likewise on #4, you didn't state that Josh wasn't a suck-up, just that he wasn't assoc with mad austrian wizards...

Great story. Glad HP wasn't booted out of Hogwarts (although it was close)

And I still think HP prefers HG, even AFTER HBP & DH...how could he not when compared to GW????

You truly are a dedicated writer.
Great chapter.

Fantastic update. Still a little surprised by the HHr interaction. Perhaps it's been so long since the last update but I didn't recall that the relationship btwn the 2 had moved so far along. Regardless, liked the characterizations of the members of the Board of Governors. Deftly done. The old old gang will no doubt prove fascinating. I do wonder, though, what you will do with Mlle de Flanders, something good, I hope. Thanks for writing.

Whee! Excellent stuff throughout. Although one thing got my attention and never let go:

"The young daughter of the English king, Princess Elizabeth, was killed and the king himself wounded."

Say WHAT now?

IP,

There have been a number of references throughout YoR to Queen Maggie / Queen Margaret, the most significant of which was in the last chapter ("Rue Britannia").   Princess  Margaret became the Heiress Presumptive following her  elder sister's death and ascended the throne in the mid 1950s.   Given the personality differences between Margaret and Elizabeth, you can assume a more sharp-edged  queen with a stronger hand on policy matters.   There is no Queen Elizabeth in YoR, and there is a notable Scottish Problem (falling somewhere between the independent rule push in the late 90s and the Irish Troubles).

Cheers,

FP

I loved the chapter - I only followed the 1st version for a couple of years, and was very happy when you decided to bring it back. The history lesson was fascinating, although your Dr. covelli is more fragile than I would have expected.
I do hope your healer can fix Heather, and that at some point rather soon that gilderoy gets very publicly punished - in a permanent fashion - like stripping him forever of the ability to use magic - for his crimes.

thanks so much for continuing the story, it is always both entertaining and thought provoking.

Good chapter. Much as I enjoy Harry tearing up the scenery, I think he needs to have the anger management classes, not just to restain it but also to learn to use it effectively. Thanks for writing. W.

Why is Pucey in the first class w/the 6th years if he's Headboy (and presumably a 7th year)?
Interesting chapter, it's good to see the return of the Marquis

Awesome update, I like when writers throw a bit of history and the like in their fics shows a bit of planning has gone on.

As always, the background of your story is exceptional, as well as your writing. I don't mind at all how long this chapter is; the longer and the more chapters, the betters, as long as I finish reading YoR someday. Your characterisation is very much in-depth too. YoR is the definitely the best fic I've ever read, and I say that even if I'm not very much into Harry/Hermione, powerful! or independent!Harry. The universe you have constructed stands on its own quality.

Wow, a lot happening here, and can't wait to see what all goes down next. It was good to see Harry got spared the axe, as well as maybe getting another ally. Go Goyle, it's actually interesting to see him come out of his Malfoy-imposed shell. Going to be great to see what the old-old crowd brings to things now, along with what all Harry has to go through next.

I thank the gods of fanfiction everytime a new chapter of YoR comes out. :)

I feel for Harry. He has done well in his status as an apprentice and has been treated as an adult, even a colleague by most of his professors since his emancipation. To be once again relegated to the confines of Hogwarts and portrayed as a hot-tempered adolescent will cast a doubt to his quest to be taken seriously. And all this brought about by the sham that is Lockhart. That was one hell of a makeover. What happened to thim?

Harry's temper has been his downfall and his salvation for most of his years in the wizarding world. How is he supposed to save the wizarding world when situations like this tend to get the best of him? Dumbledore surely didn't make it easier. What's the all knowing Dumbledore's plan this time?

As always, that was brilliant Mike. So, I'm thinking the next chapter is coming in...what...five months? ;D

Full_Pensieve replied:

Go to my section of the FFA.net forum, and you'll find a fair bit of YoR 39 already there - it's an early draft, but I think it suggests that you won't have to wait five months.   LOL

Cheers,

Mike [FP]

Just finished reading Redux all the way through. Took a while. I have been a long time fan of YOR and think that it is clearly the best written HP fanfic I've come across. The depth of the characters are unmatched anywhere else (including canon) and the the plot is intricate without dragging down the action. It is a brilliant work.

However, I am not certain about the change in locale of the will-reading from Grimmauld to Gringotts or Harry's birthday party from the Burrow to the Shrieking Shack. I suppose that is an author's prerogative but the two changes don't really seem to add anything to the story. (There are the rare mis-references to the old locations that your betas missed, but they are very minor and don't particularly stand out.)

That said, I do agree with some of Highflyer's sentiments in her review that I hope you are not throwing out the baby with the water to bring the story to a premature close. There are many wonderful storylines that can still be explored: the Goblin's & Hermione, Ginny's violin, Luna's dreamy castle, R&L, HP's acquiring of elf magic, Covelli & Hermione, Covelli & DD & Grindewald, Detheridge's odd quirks, Snape's circumstances, etc.

Of course, for a while I was concerned that the whole YOR project had been abandoned so I am thrilled that you have succumbed to the pressure of your fans to keep at it. And certainly, the last 2 chapters have been wonderful. I particularly thought that the personalization of MacLeish's political agenda through Nicola's circumstance displayed a depth of sophistication that is simply not found anywhere in fanfic. For those of us that felt let down by many of JKR's choices, YOR is more than a breath of fresh air, it is a display of everything that could have and should have been.

Brilliant!
What a chapter! So much to think about, so much going on.
Lockhart was excellent, the politics enthralling and the character interactions wonderful. I'm all agog to read the next chapter.
